However, for queer-identifying high school seniors, the risks can be far less comical and prom can present an incredibly repressive hurdle in someone’s coming out journey. We're expected to formally present ourselves for the first time, not only in dress, but in romantic preference.
Although it’s completely within a student’s legal rights to bring whoever they want and wear whatever they like, we’ve witnessed time and time again that the law doesn’t guarantee change when a more conservative school discourages their freedom of speech.

That's why BuzzFeed's Queer Prom aims to provide a safe space for people of all gender identities and sexual orientations to come together for the party they always dreamed of.
And if you're interested in attending on May 13, 2017, 4-5 select individuals from across the nation will be flown out for the event to star as our Prom Court in a BuzzFeed Video series. The rest of the high school seniors in attendance will be pooled from local Los Angeles schools.

After receiving thousands of nationwide submissions from high school seniors, we flew out eight teens - our 2017 Prom Court - to attend BuzzFeed's inaugural Queer Prom!

The vibrant rainbow-themed event was attended by our Prom Court, local high school seniors, allies, and some amazing LGBT+ celebrities.
The full Queer Prom video series will premiere for Pride Month in June and will follow the journey of our Prom Court as they come to Los Angeles to experience their first inclusive prom. Believe us when we tell you that their personal stories will touch even the coldest of hearts.

We Created Tinder Profiles And Got It All Wrong
When it comes to creating the “perfect” Tinder profile, the struggle is real.
Let's get real. Creating a Tinder profile can be a lot of pressure because you gotta have the right pics while simultaneously not sounding like a total asshole.

A few weeks ago, the Try Guys released a video on "The Science of Attraction," and part of that video included creating a profile that would be reviewed by a Tinder specialist.

The guys enlisted the help of Dr. Jess, PhD, a Tinder sociologist who studied online dating and facial attractiveness.

Zach's photos were up first, and Dr. Jess was quick to point out he should lose the glasses and look towards the camera.
Glasses obstruct your peepers and Dr. Jess says that sends a signal of whether you're a trustworthy individual or not.

Then it was Keith's turn, and he thought he hit it outta the park with this photo of him wearing a "KEITH" t-shirt and holding a bouquet of fried chicken and biscuits.
According to Dr. Jess, all this pic said about Keith was that he may forget what his name is, and he's got cardiovascular disease on the mind. Nope!

Moving along to Ned and this photo of him and his adorable dog: Dr. Jess suggested he show his entire face because if you do, you're 20% more likely to be swiped right on.
Okay so full disclosure: Ned met his wife before online dating was a thing but he still played along so we could all learn from his Tinder profile mistakes.
